Logo Design Process
Welcome to this article explaining our
logo design process. Here, we use a recent logo design project
for the Community Recycling Network
as a case-study.
See our main logo
design page for examples of completed work from our portfolio. |

| The Logo Design Brief |
Forming a water-tight brief
is the most important part of the entire logo design process
because it ensures that we don't waste time (and your budget!)
by producing inappropriate designs.
In order for us to create an effective logo for you - we need
to understand your company, your aims, and the image that you
wish to portray.
It is also helpful if you can source a variety of logos/adverts
that you like or dislike - and to provide a short description
of any design or image preferences that you have, including:
• Colour
• Imagery
• Symbolism
• Feel (i.e. corporate or friendly?)
For more information, see our writing
a design brief article. |

| The Logo Design Stages |
• Stage 1
The brief for this particular project was to design a logo that
contained imagery relating to recycling and community.
The first stage of the logo design process involved us creating
a wide variety of initial designs based on this brief.
• Stage 2
During feedback sessions on this first stage of designs, the
client identified one design that they liked, and wanted to
see variations of. It was the triangular design (middle-right)
which this next series of designs was an elaboration upon...
• Stage 3
Following the second stage of design, the client identified
the 'people standing in front of the triangle' as the theme
that they liked. This idea was then reworked and tweaked for
the third stage of designs...

• Stage 4
The client's chosen design then underwent further changes to
the colour and layout before being approved for publication. |

| The Finished Logo Design |

Once the design had been finalised, the completed logo was then
posted to the client on CD-ROM in a variety of formats.
This includes all the original design files, as well as versions
of the logo for use in newspapers, magazines and the web. |
|
 |
| Extras |
Whilst many companies are happy to simply receive
their logo on CD-ROM, we offer several other services can be useful: • Incorporating
the logo into stationery.
• Producing a logo guideline report. This details the
correct use of the logo in all internal and external applications.
It also recommends appropriate typefaces and colour-schemes
that should be used in conjunction with the logo.
• Setting up of a web page on your site where newspaper
editors, webmasters and partners can download your logo in any
format and size they might require. |
